Freelance Unreal Developers

Fivestone Studios is a fully remote Nashville-based creative production company that a national clientele of agencies and brands trust as their creative secret weapon. Our MO is taking on giant-sized creative challenges and making heroes of our clients through an impressive arsenal of animation, live action, and creative technology. We are on the hunt for a freelance Unreal Developer, who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality interactive experiences using the Unreal game engine. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in interactive development, a passion for creating engaging user experiences, and a solid understanding of programming and graphics principles.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Technical Skills: Proficient in C++ programming language and object-oriented design principles. Strong understanding of Unreal’s architecture, blueprints, physics, and rendering systems. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git, Perforce).

• User Experience: Strong understanding of UI/UX design principles and the ability to collaborate effectively with design teams. Familiarity with UI/UX design tools (e.g., Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma) is a plus.

• Performance Optimization: Experience with optimizing code and assets for performance.

• Portfolio: A strong portfolio of previous Unity projects showcasing your skills and problem-solving abilities is highly desirable.

• Desirable Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Unreal’s render pipeline
  • Shader programming (HLSL) or experience using the node based material editor
  • Working with and creating custom plugins
  • Building Editor from source and comfortable making changes
  • Networking (UDP, WebSockets, REST API)
  • Interfacing with other systems (DMX, Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
  •  Depth sensors (Kinect, Zed 2, Ultraleap)
  • XR development (AR, VR, MR)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Front-End Development: Collaborate with the design and art teams to conceptualize and implement interactive elements, user interfaces, and visual effects.

• Performance Optimization: Optimize graphics and code for maximum speed and efficiency, includingminimizing RAM / CPU / VRAM / GPU usage and utilizing scene / networking / code profiling to improve performance.

• Collaboration: Work closely with developers and team members to integrate plugins, systems, graphics, audio, and animations into the final product. Investigates, troubleshoots, and debugs issues that arise in a prompt and reliable fashion.

• Code Quality: Follow best practices and coding standards to produce clean, reusable, and maintainable code, while conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback to peers.
